The BMVC ‘Team’

Richard Childress (Music Director)

Richard joined us in June 2017 with a distinguished and varied musical background.  Hailing originally from Chicago, Illinois Richard currently resides in Winchester and returns annually to the US in the summer to work with a choral group he established there.  His varied background spans choral and orchestral music as well as teaching ‘rock and pop’  in a Winchester college.  He is currently a chorister at Winchester Cathedral.

Brian Budden ( Accompanist)

An active and highly dedicated musician for the whole of his career, Brian studied music in Huddersfield, before teaching in secondary schools, accompanying choirs and instrumentalists at Music Festivals and concerts and teaching keyboard for Yamaha Music (UK).

Brian  joined us in 2016 initially to assist Paul and has taken the role of lead Accompanist following Paul Wright’s decision to have a lesser involvement.  Brian lives in Southampton and is also accompanist with Romsey Male Voice Choir.

Paul Wright (Accompanist Emeritus)

Peter 1  Paul has been a well-known figure in the Basingstoke area for many years, and through his involvement in a formidable range of  musical activities has  established a  considerable reputation as an organist/accompanist, ensuring he is always in great demand.

He joined BMVC as their  principal   accompanist in  1977 and has been principal  organist at St Mary’s Church Old Basing for over 30 years and accompanist to BMVC for slightly less.  Paul’s    engagements have  taken him to many of the South’s great  concert halls and cathedrals, including several appearances at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2001 Paul and his wife Marilyn were presented with a Mayor’s Award for their outstanding contribution to music in Basingstoke and Deane.

In 2017 Paul decided to take a back seat and ‘semi-retire’ from BMVC but still continues to help accompanying at rehearsals and concerts.
